The thinking behind this was, apparently, to let Bethesda breathe new life into the series before taking it back...

I'd like an action-RPG like what you described but that's just not what Bethesda will deliver. They proved that with Oblivion and its expansion pack, Fallout 3. I think both of those games sucked but they still sold tons.
I don't play a lot of games these days. I use the console because it's easy and I'm not a big fan of using the mouse and keyboard to do shit. The downside is the console will never be as accurate which sucks, but fuck it. Maybe when I retire I'll play PC games, just don't have the time with all the shit I do.

That would be a novel move in the software industry. Renting out a title...I've heard conflicting stories over this but I've also heard this one too...more than once. They'll get around it somehow...they'll take the last one in a totally different direction and use that as a basis for a new series that's not strictly Fallout per se.

9.5 doesn't even do the game justice, its a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I can't tell you how many times I've just been blown away by events and scenery. Even the musical score is top notch.

I'm playing a female Bosmer archer/thief and can't put the game down. Hours melt away and the sun unexpectedly peeks through the blinds... and I keep playing.

I'm not sure how good it looks on console, but at 25x16 its fucking gorgeous, and since it was optimized to use 4 cores it runs like butter on this rig. Simply put, this is the best game I've played. Like, ever. I know I'm prone to exaggerations, but you gotta trust me on this one: a-m-a-z-i-n-g...

I logged in with the intention of playing for 20 minutes and 3 hours later had to literally drag myself away from the game. Huge time sink. And I've barely even started the main quest line! Just wait until they start adding user created mods for this, it's going to be epic.

Me being an old-school pc-RPG fan it's easy to nitpick this game and find stuff to complain about but if you go into it expecting an action/adventure with RPG elements it's really quite good.

3 hours!? Lightweight.

You have no idea what awaits you.

I have a LoCo-ish friend who only plays shooters and thinks RPGs are gay. I showed him a few quick areas and he couldn't believe his eyes. I wouldn't dream of spoiling my favorites (so far) but I can tell you your jaw will literally drop.

I'm currently lvl 20, which is pretty sad considering the game only came out like, 3 days ago. There's always one... more... thing... I wanna do before closing the program. Bethesda has successfully taken the best elements from Oblivion and Fallout 3, combined them, and made further improvements. Again, this may be the best game I've ever played...

Re: Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim

So...Skyrim is pretty amazing. I can't stop playing and I've restarted my file at least 4 times although I still haven't gotten very far yet. I keep finding an item I missed each time, etc.

The only thing I dislike is the fact that all of the dragons look the same and have the same attack patterns. I'm not even sure you can fight more than one at a time but I could be wrong. I've heard that they attack you randomly after a certain point in the story and there are some that defend certain locations (mainly areas that have words for you to learn your shouts), so I think if you happen to randomly get attacked by a dragon and you happen to be near a spot a dragon is defending, then you'll have to fight both. That's the only way I can imagine someone fighting more than one. Too lazy to search YouTube, but I'd like to eventually galumph my way to the extra challenge and figure it out myself.

The coolest thing I've seen so far are the fatality type moves that happen at random. For example, my character caught a wolf earlier by the neck as it was lunging at him then took his sword out and shoved it right through its neck. It keeps things interesting considering there's different death animations based on the position and what you happen to be fighting.

Currently trying to build my character up so he can finally start decapitating people with a mace, but sadly that's a skill you have to train for. Other than that, I'm surprised how much fun I've having with the game from the offset unlike Oblivion. Which had the stick and the giant flying rats...and...I really don't remember. It was Oblivion.

Edit: There are way too many traps in the dungeons. I was just trying to run away from a bunch of zombies just now and I accidentally got smacked in the face by a giant spiked wall. Needless to say, I'm in love...

Re: Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim

There I was playing Skyrim, got my Mage to level 6, just smoked a dragon who was attacking a watch tower. Turtle beach headset on (the wired one, didn't want to fuck with batteries) and my son runs through the room. He trips over the wire, rips the Xbox off the shelf, causing it to slam on the floor. I jump up make sure he's okay, then check out the damage. Xbox turns back on, logs into live, and everything seems cool. I goto play Skyrim and it won't boot. I look at the disc and it's got a huge fucking ring around it, scratched to fuck and back. I use my disc doctor and strip it down to the metal damn near. Still nothing, so here I am days later without Skyrim to play.

off to gamestop to buy another.

Re: Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim

LoCo, when you make your new character, I highly recommend you make a Bosmer and focus on bows. I'll make my case as quickly as possible:

First off, you're a shooter vet, so using a bow will be like second-nature for you.

Second, you don't have to spread your level points out over other areas, like Magic - you can just dump everything in health, making you nearly invincible. I haven't spent a point on Stamina or Magic, so in the rare cases an enemy actually gets close to me I can take whatever it dishes like a boss.

Almost nothing can touch me. Once you start using perks in Bow and Sneak, you can pick everything off from afar. Add some poison to your arrows and its a joke. In fact, just to raise my Light Armor skill enough to get the good perks, I've had to resort to letting wolves hit me over and over. They can't actually hurt me because I have so much health, but it does increase my LA skill.

I'm not even half way through but I'm already God-like. I had to fight a dragon and a frost troll at the same time and it was a piece of cake. I wabajacked the troll, turning his sorry ass into a bunny rabbit, then took out the dragon with my bow in about ten seconds. On that note, the Wabajack is by far my favorite "weapon". It turns hard enemies into easy creatures and easy creatures into horrible monsters. I actually find myself using it on small animals just to see what kinda rough shit they turn into more than I use it to save my ass. Its totally unpredictable either way and always fun to use.

Anyway, play however you want, but there are all sorts of counters to magic that enemies use and you have to worry about how much magica you have. There is no counter for the unseen, loooong shot arrow to the face...

That seems very gay. I don't like my characters to be gods too early in the game, it kills all the fun. Fable comes to mind.

My character is a mage, all pimped out, can fuck shit up using only magic. Health sucks, stamina sucks, but destruction is evil. Next time through I'm going to go stealth.

You killed the Ultimate of Ultimate creatures at just level 6?

Now my interest just waned on the game a great deal. It sounds like Bethesda took all the challenge out once more from one of their games so the neurologically challenged kids of today can play it.

Killing a Dragon should be a Level 20 to lvl 30 player kill, if there were 30 levels.
